Introducing the Office of Dignity and Belonging
Our Ignatian identity calls us to reflect not just on what we do, but why we do it. At St. Joseph’s Prep, our decisions are made with the intention to further our mission: developing our students’ minds, hearts, souls, bodies, and character in pursuit of becoming men for and with others.
Grounded in this Jesuit tradition, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has spent time reflecting on the evolution of its work. To better align with our Catholic identity and our unique way of proceeding, the office will now be known as the Office of Dignity and Belonging.
This new name reflects two essential, intentionally ordered dimensions of our mission: Dignity affirms the foundational Catholic belief that every person is created in the image and likeness of God. Therefore, every individual possesses an inherent worth that must be recognized, honored, and protected.
Belonging reflects our commitment to cura personalis—ensuring that every member of our community is known, valued, and able to fully participate in the life of the Prep. When we honor the inherent dignity of each individual, an authentic sense of belonging naturally follows, allowing us to deepen our understanding and kinship with all of God’s creation.
While the name is changing, our vital work continues. This office remains dedicated to student formation, faculty and staff development, and community engagement. We will continue to foster a culture in our Jesuit tradition where every person in our community is seen, challenged, and supported to flourish intellectually, spiritually, and personally.
